The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and features 120 grit alumina zirconium abrasive designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It incorporates a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continuously produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide, and is a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit many belt sanding tools, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough cut edges, medium-width belts used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru style finishers, and narrow belts for grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners on file tools. The applications include setting the grain and straightline brushed finishes primarily for the metal fabrication industry.
