The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1" x 18" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, providing increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations for extended life. Designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys, it is suitable for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt includes a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure and fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points for faster cut rates. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools and industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing of metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal or finishing sheets and coils, and narrow belts for grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners. Applications include blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding, with industries served including builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
