The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1" x 18" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, offering increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing designed to withstand high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations while ensuring long life. The belt is suitable for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for tasks such as dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid on the belt reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys including stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive fractures frequently to continuously create sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate and is bonded to the backing with resin for durability under high heat and pressure. The abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths and are compatible with a range of belt sanding tools for metalworking applications. Wider belts are intended for wide belt sanders to smooth rough cut edges and add grain patterns to metal sheets, medium-width belts are used on backstands or feed-thru finishers for weld removal and finishing, and narrow belts are suited for backstands or file tools to access right angle corners. Applicable applications include blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding.
