The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 18-27/32" and features 120 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures when working with heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure and is designed to fracture frequently, producing sharp points that deliver a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a wide range of belt sanding tools for metalworking applications; wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing, medium-width belts on backstands or feed-thru style flat finishers for weld removal or finishing sheets/coils, and narrow belts on backstands or file tools for grinding and finishing in tight corners. Typical applications include setting the grain and creating a straightline brushed finish, primarily in the metal fabrication industry.
