The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F, measuring 2" x 132" with 60 grit alumina zirconium, is designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly bonded to a resin backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure, and it fractures frequently to produce sharp points for faster cut rates compared to aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral abrasive is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools, catering to multiple metalworking applications. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough cut edges or adding grain patterns to metal sheets. Medium-width belts are suitable for backstands or feed-thru style finishers for weld removal or finishing sheets or coils, while narrow belts are used on backstands or file tools for grinding and finishing in right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
