The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 2" x 18-27/32" with 60 grit alumina zirconium abrasive designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide. The synthetic mineral is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. The abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths, fitting most industrial belt sanders; wider belts are used for wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges of metal sheets or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts are used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers, and narrow belts are used for grinding, finishing, or accessing right angle corners. Applications include setting the grain and creating straightline brushed finishes, primarily in the metal fabrication industry.
