The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 2-1/2" x 60" and features a 60 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide, and is designed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding. Available in various widths and lengths, these abrasive belts fit many industrial belt sanders; wider belts suit wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges or adding grain patterns to metal sheets, medium-width belts work on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru style flat finishers for sheet or coil finishing, and narrow belts are suitable for grinding and finishing in right angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
