3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1/2" x 24" and features alumina zirconium abrasive grain, providing increased cutting efficiency over aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, ensuring long life and suitability for both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt includes a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin, maintaining durability under high heat and pressure. The alumina zirconia grain fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is ideal for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. 3M offers a broad selection of abrasive belts to fit various industrial belt sanders, with wider belts for flat finishing on metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal or finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing, including access to right-angle corners.
