The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 4 inches by 132 inches and features 50 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures on heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. This synthetic mineral abrasively fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, and is designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing of metal sheets, medium widths for weld removal or finishing sheets and coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing at right angle corners. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
