The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 6 inches by 275 inches and features 120 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It includes a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral that fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide; it is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges of metal sheets, medium-width belts used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers for finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts used on backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners for finishing. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding. The belt is suitable for industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
