The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 6" x 48" with a 100 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the resin backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding, frequently fractures to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for diverse metalworking applications; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough cut edges of metal sheets or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are typically used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru style flat finishers to impart finish on sheets or coils, while narrow belts are suited for backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners for finishing. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding. The product serves industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
