The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 6" x 48" and features a 120 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for tasks such as dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasives frequently fracture to expose sharp points, providing a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide and are developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts fit a variety of industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suited for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges on metal sheets, medium-width belts typically used on backstands or feed-thru style finishers for sheet or coil finishing, and narrow belts used on backstands or file tools for finishing right-angle corners. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
