The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 6" x 48" with a 36 grit alumina zirconium abrasive and is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The belt is suitable for various widths and lengths, used on different belt sanding tools for multiple metalworking applications, including centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, flat finishing, gate removal, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding. It is ideal for industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
