The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2-1/2" x 60" and features 80 grit alumina zirconia abrasive, specifically designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for applications such as dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt incorporates a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded with resin to the cloth backing, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasives continuously fracture to form sharp points, providing faster cut rates compared to aluminum oxide; this synthetic mineral is suited for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit multiple belt sanding tools across metalworking applications. Wide belts are used in wide belt sanders for flat finishing, smoothing rough cut edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are suitable for backstand use for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishing for sheet or coil finishing. Narrow belts serve for grinding and finishing on backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners. The belt is applicable for centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing (including flat and intermediate), gate removal, high-pressure grinding, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
