The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 1" x 42" with a 120 grit alumina zirconia abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly bonded with resin to the cloth backing, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure, and its synthetic mineral composition allows it to fracture frequently, continuously producing sharp points for faster cut rates than aluminum oxide. These abrasive belts are available in a variety of widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders to smooth rough cut edges or add grain patterns on metal sheets, medium-width belts typically used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal and finishing, and narrow belts used on backstands or file tools for right-angle corner finishing. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
