The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 1/4" x 24" and features alumina zirconia abrasive grain, which provides increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It is backed with a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing designed to withstand high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid integrated into the belt helps protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys by reducing running temperatures, while the abrasive is securely bonded with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral that fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering faster cut rates and is developed specifically for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a wide range of industrial belt sanders; wider belts are used for flat finishing on metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal and finishing on sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in right-angle corners or on file tools. Common applications include blending, coating removal, deburring, and high-pressure grinding.
