The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 1-1/2" x 3-9/64" and features 80 grit alumina zirconia abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, fractures frequently to produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide. The abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanding tools for multiple metalworking applications. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing and to smooth rough cut edges or add grain patterns to metal sheets, medium-width belts are suitable for backstands for weld removal or feed-thru finishers for sheets or coils, and narrow belts are used on backstands or file tools for grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners.
