The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 1-1/2" x 60" and features 50 grit alumina zirconium abrasive designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, the belt incorporates a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasive fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide, and is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Available in a variety of widths and lengths, these belts fit most industrial belt sanders; wider belts are suitable for wide belt sanders for flat finishing, smoothing rough cut edges, or adding grain patterns to metal sheets, while medium-width belts work well on backstands or feed-thru style flat finishers for weld removal or finishing sheets and coils. Narrow belts are appropriate for grinding and finishing on backstands or file tools for accessing right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
