The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F is a 2" x 48" abrasive belt with 120 grit alumina zirconium designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt, while the abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin for durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral that fractures frequently, producing sharp points for faster cut rates compared to aluminum oxide, making it suitable for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belt is available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for metalworking applications, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing metal sheets, medium-width belts for backstand weld removal or feed-thru style flat finishing, and narrow belts for grinding, finishing, or accessing right-angle corners on file tools. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
