The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 48" and features 36 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as nickel and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing for durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of belt sanding tools for metalworking applications, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts commonly used on backstands or feed-thru style finishers for weld removal or sheet finishing, and narrow belts suited for backstand grinding, finishing, and accessing right-angle corners on file tools. The applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
