The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 36" with 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconium abrasive is a synthetic mineral designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, with fractures that continually produce sharp points for a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to accommodate different belt sanding tools and metalworking applications; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough metal edges, medium-width belts on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishing, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in tight or right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
