The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 2" x 48" and features 100 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, suitable for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing for durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently, producing sharp points that deliver faster cut rates compared to aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths compatible with a wide range of industrial belt sanding tools. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges or adding grain patterns to metal sheets. Medium-width belts fit backstands for weld removal or feed-thru style flat finishers, and narrow belts are used on backstands or file tools for finishing right angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
