The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2" x 48" with a 40 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures when used on heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding, fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, enabling a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit many industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders to smooth rough cut edges or add grain patterns on metal sheets, medium-width belts typically used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts applied on backstands or file tools for grinding and finishing in tight corners.
