The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 2-1/2" x 72" and features 40 grit alumina zirconium abrasives designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for applications such as dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys including stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral that fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, offering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The belts are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit various industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suitable for wide belt sanders used in flat finishing or smoothing rough-cut edges, medium widths typically used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers, and narrow belts designed for backstands or file tools to reach right angle corners. This belt is suitable for centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
