The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 2-1/2" x 72" with 24 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures when working with heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin bonded to the cloth backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral, fractures frequently to produce sharp points for faster cut rates compared to aluminum oxide, and is designed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding. The belts are available in various widths and lengths, compatible with industrial belt sanders, including wide belts for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges on metal sheets, medium-width belts for weld removal or finishing sheets and coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in right angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
