The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 25" x 48" with 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It features a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that withstands high-pressure applications and edge work, ensuring durability and supporting both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, it includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, and the abrasive is resin-bonded to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia abrasives continually fracture to produce sharp points for faster cutting and are developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit industrial belt sanders: wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing metal sheet edges or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts are used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru style flat finishers, and narrow belts are used on backstands or file tools for grinding and finishing tight corners. Applications include descaling, flat finishing, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, plate grinding, sheet grinding, and slab grinding, serving industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, and metal fabrication.
