The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3" x 90" with a 60 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide; it is a synthetic mineral developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for wide belt sanders in flat finishing applications, medium-width belts generally used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers, and narrow belts suitable for backstands or file tools to access right angle corners for finishing. Suitable applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
