3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 3" x 79" with an 80 grit alumina zirconium composition, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt features a grinding aid that helps protect heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys by reducing running temperatures. The abrasive material is firmly bonded to the backing with resin, ensuring durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconium is designed to fracture frequently, continuously producing sharp points for a faster cut-rate compared to aluminum oxide. This synthetic mineral is specifically developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The abrasive belts are compatible with a variety of belt sanding tools and come in various widths and lengths for multiple metalworking applications. Wider belts are typically used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing, while medium-width belts are suited for backstand weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers. Narrow belts can be employed on backstands for grinding and finishing or on file tools for accessing right-angle corners.
