The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 37" x 60" and has a 40 grit alumina zirconium abrasive grain designed for increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide belts. It features a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that provides durability for high-pressure applications and edge work, supporting both wet and dry operations. This belt is recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. A grinding aid reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive grain is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure, with alumina zirconia continuously fracturing to produce sharp points that deliver a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide. The belt is suitable for use on various widths and lengths to fit multiple belt sanding tools for metalworking applications, including wide belts for flat finishing and narrow belts for accessing right angle corners. Typical applications include descaling, flat finishing, high pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, plate grinding, sheet grinding, and slab grinding.
