The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 4 inches by 24 inches with a 60 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. It features a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures on heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, while the abrasive is resin-bonded to the cloth backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. The alumina zirconia abrasive fractures frequently to produce sharp points, enabling faster cut rates compared to aluminum oxide, and is suitable for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts fit a range of industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing and smoothing rough cut edges on metal sheets, medium widths for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in tight areas, including right-angle corners.
