The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 4 inches by 312 inches and features a 50 grit alumina zirconium abrasive designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid that reduces running temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconium abrasive is firmly bonded with resin to the cloth backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure, and it fractures frequently to produce sharp points for a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for sheet or coil finishing, and narrow belts for backstands or file tools to access right-angle corners.
