The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 4" x 60" and features 60 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt incorporates a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia continuously fractures to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide and enabling heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanders. Wide belts are suited for wide belt sanders to smooth rough cut edges and add grain patterns to metal sheets, medium-width belts are used on backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for weld removal and finishing, while narrow belts work on backstands or file tools for grinding and finishing in hard-to-reach corners. Recommended applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding. The product serves industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
