The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 4" x 60" and features an 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt contains a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia is a synthetic mineral that fractures frequently to produce sharp points, delivering a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide, and was developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for weld removal and finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding and finishing in tight corners or on file tools. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding. This product is utilized in industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
