The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F measures 6" x 60" with an 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin, providing durability under high heat and pressure, and its synthetic mineral composition allows it to fracture frequently, producing sharp points for faster cut rates than aluminum oxide. The belts come in various widths and lengths for compatibility with various belt sanding tools and industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges, medium-width belts used for weld removal and coil finishing, and narrow belts suited for grinding and finishing in right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
