The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 6" x 48" and features 80 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures and protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys. The alumina zirconia abrasive fractures frequently, producing sharp points to deliver a faster cut rate than aluminum oxide, and it is firmly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. The synthetic mineral abrasive is developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding. Abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit many industrial belt sanders, with wider belts used for flat finishing on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts used on backstands or feed-thru finishers, and narrow belts suitable for accessing right-angle corners on file tools. Typical applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding. This belt is utilized across industries such as builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plating and polishing, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
