The 3M™ cloth belt 577F measures 6" x 60" and features a 36 grit alumina zirconium abrasive, designed for use on aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. The belt includes a grinding aid to reduce running temperatures, protecting heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, while the abrasive is resin-bonded to the backing to ensure durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia, a synthetic mineral known for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, continually fractures to produce sharp points for a faster cut rate compared to aluminum oxide. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a wide range of industrial belt sanders, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders for flat finishing and grain pattern addition, medium-width belts for weld removal and finishing on sheets or coils, and narrow belts for grinding right-angle corners. Applications include centerless and cylindrical grinding, descaling, finishing, flat finishing, gate removal, high-pressure grinding, intermediate finishing, mill scale removal, parting line removal, plate grinding, shaping, and sheet grinding.
