The 3M™ cloth belt 302D measures 1-1/2" x 42" and features a P180 grit aluminum oxide abrasive with an open coat construction that channels sanding dust away from the belt and workpiece, enhancing visibility and belt performance. The abrasive particles are resin bonded to the cloth backing, providing a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure and allows the belt to run until the abrasive is fully worn. This belt is suitable for operations requiring added flexibility and is widely used in both woodworking and metalworking, including on ferrous alloys. The open coat design spaces abrasive grains apart to prevent loading from wood or paint dust, resulting in a more aggressive cut compared to closed coat abrasives of the same grade. 3M abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit many industrial belt sanding tools; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough-cut metal edges, medium-width belts are commonly used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru flat finishers for finishing sheets or coils, and narrow belts are ideal for backstands and file tools to finish in right-angle corners.
