The 3M™ cloth belt 302D measuring 1-1/2" x 42" with P220 grit aluminum oxide features an open coat construction that helps channel sanding dust away from both the belt and work piece, enhancing visibility and belt performance. The abrasive and cloth backing are resin bonded, ensuring the belt remains effective until the abrasive is fully worn. This belt is recommended for operations requiring added flexibility and is suitable for a broad range of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. Aluminum oxide mineral provides durable, long-lasting performance and is the most commonly used industrial abrasive. The abrasive particles are adhered to the cloth backing with resin, enabling the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. Open coat design spaces abrasive grains apart to prevent loading caused by wood or paint dust clogging the belt, offering a more aggressive cut than similarly graded closed coat abrasives. The abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to accommodate different belt sanding tools used in numerous metalworking applications. Wider belts are intended for wide belt sanders for flat finishing, smoothing rough metal edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts typically are used on backstands for weld removal or feed-thru style flat finishers for finishing sheets or coils. Narrow belts are applicable on backstands for grinding and finishing or on file tools for finishing right-angle corners.
