The 3M™ Cloth Belt 340D measures 3" x 18" with P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are fast-cutting and resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long life. This belt features an open coat and load-resistant coating, making it particularly effective for sanding soft woods, with a washable backing suitable for high production environments where removal of resin or pitch buildup is necessary. The aluminum oxide mineral offers durability and long use across various materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys, and is adhered with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts of various widths and lengths accommodate different belt sanding tools: wider belts for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth metal edges, or add grain patterns to stainless steel; medium-width belts for edge sanders on flat, narrow surfaces; and narrow belts for portable sanders used on smaller wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belts are constructed with either a film media splice, using a joining film to minimize chatter and ensure smooth operation and consistent finishes, or a sine wave splice with interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and strong joints, commonly applied to coarser grades. The product complies with industry standards and includes a warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.
