The 3M™ cloth belt 302D measures 2" x 132" and features a P240 grit aluminum oxide abrasive with an open coat construction that channels sanding dust away from the belt and workpiece, enhancing belt performance and visibility. The abrasive and cloth backing are resin bonded to ensure the belt runs until the abrasive is fully worn. This belt is recommended for operations requiring added flexibility and is effective on a wide variety of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. Aluminum oxide is favored for its cutting rate, durability, and long life. The abrasive grains are spaced apart in an open coat pattern to prevent loading from dust and debris, allowing for a more aggressive cut than closed coat abrasives of the same grade. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts are suitable for different belt sanding tools and applications such as blending, deburring, fine finishing, and radiusing in metalworking. Wide belts fit wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough edges or adding grain patterns, medium-width belts are used on backstands or feed-thru finishers for weld removal and finishing on sheets or coils, and narrow belts are suitable for grinding and finishing in right-angle corners on backstands or file tools.
