The 3M™ cloth belt 302D measures 2" x 132" and features a P150 grit aluminum oxide abrasive. It has an open coat construction designed to channel sanding dust away from both the belt and workpiece, enhancing visibility and belt performance. The abrasive and backing are resin bonded to ensure the belt operates until the abrasive is fully worn, offering added flexibility for various operations. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting rate, durability, and long life, suitable for woodworking, metalworking, and processing ferrous alloys. The abrasive grains, spaced slightly apart in the open coat design, prevent loading by allowing dust and debris to escape, resulting in a more aggressive cut compared to closed coat abrasives of the same grade. These cloth belts come in a range of widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanders; wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for flat finishing and smoothing rough metal edges, medium-width belts are typically for backstands or feed-thru flat finishers for sheets and coils, and narrow belts serve backstands or file tools for finishing right-angle corners.
