The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 36" x 75" and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are fast-cutting and resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long life. This open coat, premium grade aluminum oxide cloth belt offers durability for aggressive stock removal, resists loading, and is suitable for various applications on wood and metal. It is recommended for wide belt sanding, edge sanding, or portable belt sanding. The open coat and load-resistant coating make it particularly effective for sanding soft woods, and the washable backing is suitable for high production environments where belts may need washing to remove soft wood resin or pitch buildup. Aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, and adheres strongly to the cloth backing, withstanding high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts are available in different widths and lengths for use with various belt sanding tools: wider belts are suited for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels and smooth metal edges; medium-width belts fit edge sanders to work on flat, narrow surfaces; and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending smaller wood pieces. The belts feature various splices, including a film media splice that secures the belt ends with a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth operation.
