The 3M™ cloth belt 302D measures 3" x 132" and features an 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive with an open coat construction designed to channel sanding dust away from both the belt and work piece, enhancing visibility and belt performance. The abrasive particles and cloth backing are resin bonded to maintain belt function until the abrasive is fully worn. This belt is recommended for operations requiring added flexibility and is suitable for woodworking and metalworking on various materials, including ferrous alloys. Aluminum oxide mineral is valued for its cut rate, durability, and long life, and is the most common industrial abrasive. The resin bond on the cloth backing withstands high heat and pressure. The open coat design spaces abrasive grains to prevent loading from wood or paint dust, improving abrasive effectiveness and providing a more aggressive cut than closed coat abrasives of the same grade. The belt is compatible with a range of belt sanding tools, with different widths suited to multiple metalworking applications; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for flat finishing and adding grain patterns to stainless steel, medium-width belts are typical for weld removal or finish imparting on sheets or coils, and narrow belts are suitable for grinding and finishing in tight areas or corners.
