The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 3" x 21" with P100 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, designed for fast cutting, continuous use, and long life. The belt features an open coat and load-resistant coating, making it especially effective for sanding soft woods, while its washable backing supports high production environments by allowing intervals of washing to remove soft wood resin or pitch buildup. The aluminum oxide mineral provides high cut-rate, durability, and long life, suitable for use on a variety of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are bonded with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. These belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of belt sanding tools: wide belts for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges, medium belts for sanding flat narrow surfaces, and narrow belts for portable sanders used on smaller wood pieces. Belt splices include film media splices, which create a secure bond with minimal chatter marks for smooth operation and consistent finish, and sine wave splices composed of interlocking fingers that reduce hinging and add strength, typically used on coarser grades.
