The 3M™ Cloth Belt 340D measures 3" x 21" and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing for continuous cut and long life. The belt is designed with an open coat and a load-resistant coating, making it particularly effective for sanding softwoods. Its washable backing is suitable for high-production environments where the belt may require washing to remove resin or pitch buildup. Aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications for its cut-rate, durability, and versatility on materials such as woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The resin bonding ensures the abrasive particles remain adhered under high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools, where wider belts suit wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts are used on edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces, and narrow belts fit portable belt sanders for blending smaller wood pieces. Belts feature different splice types, such as film media splices that create a secure bond with joining film to minimize chatter marks and sine wave splices with interlocking fingers that travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add joint strength, typically utilized for coarser grades.
