The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 3" x 24" and features 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing for continuous cut and long life. This belt employs an open coat and load-resistant coating, making it particularly effective for sanding soft woods, and includes a washable backing suitable for high production environments where resin or pitch buildup may require washing at intervals. The aluminum oxide abrasive is known for its fast cut rate, durability, and versatility across woodworking and metalworking applications, including ferrous alloys, with particles strongly adhered to withstand high heat and pressure. This belt is compatible with various industrial belt sanders in multiple widths and lengths, with wider belts used for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts suited for edge sanders on flat narrow surfaces, and narrow belts for portable sanders working on wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belt includes a film media splice that uses a joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth running, and provide consistent finishing results; alternate splice options include sine wave splices with interlocking fingers designed to smoothly travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add joint strength, typically applied for coarser grades and wider belts.
