The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 9" x 20" with 24 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed to deliver fast-cutting action and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. It features a closed coat construction for finishing on metal, providing a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, and should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications for its cut rate, durability, and longevity, effective on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths to fit multiple belt sanding tools, wider belts are for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are meant for portable belt sanders used on smaller wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts include different splices such as film media splices for secure bonds that minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishes, while sine wave splices use interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, typically employed for coarser grit belts.
