The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 4" x 24" and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long life. This open coat, load-resistant coated belt is especially suitable for sanding soft woods and includes a washable backing designed for high production environments to remove soft wood resin or pitch buildup. Aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications for its cutting rate, durability, and long life, applicable on various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles firmly adhere to the cloth backing with resin, creating a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in different widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools for wood and metal applications, ranging from wide belts for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels and smooth metal edges, medium-width belts for edge sanding flat narrow surfaces, to narrow belts used in portable belt sanders for blending wood pieces. The belts include various splice types such as film media splices that secure the belt ends with a joining film that minimizes chatter, ensures smooth running, and consistent finishing, or sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers providing smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added joint strength, typically used for coarser grades.
