The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 6" x 48" and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are fast-cutting and resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing for continuous cut and long life. The belt has an open coat design and load-resistant coating, making it especially suitable for sanding soft woods. Its washable backing supports high production environments by allowing washing to remove soft wood resin or pitch buildup. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting efficiency, durability, and adaptability for both woodworking and metalworking, including use on ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are securely bonded with resin to the cloth backing, enabling the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths for different belt sanding tools and applications, ranging from wide belts for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough metal edges to medium-width belts used with edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces, and narrow belts for portable sanders to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt splices include film media splices, which provide a secure bond with minimal chatter marks and smooth running, and sine wave splices, constructed with interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added strength, commonly used for coarser grades.
