The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 6 inches by 89 inches and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, offering fast cutting and long life. This belt includes an open coat and load-resistant coating, making it especially effective for sanding soft woods, and it comes with a washable backing suited for high-production environments where periodic washing is needed to remove soft wood resin or pitch buildup. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used industrially for its cut rate, durability, and longevity, suitable for various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. Abrasive particles are bonded with resin to the cloth backing, ensuring a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal; wider belts are used for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels or smooth metal sheet edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts are employed with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors.
